Netherlands Australia Identity
2006 commemorates 400 years since the first Dutch ship landed in Australia and 200 years of Netherlands-Australia bilateral relations. This award winning identity combines simply an orange tulip and the southern cross, drawing on what is symbolic of each country and the events nautical themes.

If you were looking for something to sum up Australia and the Netherlands jointly, you could hardly do better than match the Southern Cross with the tulip. The prize, donated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and presented yesterday by the Netherlands Ambassador Hans Sondaal, was open to students of the School of Design and Architecture at the University of Canberra, who had to design a logo for the festivities marking 400 years of bilateral relations between Australia and the Netherlands in 2006.
Dr Sondaal reflected that Ms Dobell's image of the Southern Cross coming out of the mount of a tulip could be taken to suggest champagne bubbles or fireworks, stereotypes, he said, but used in a novel way. Designed for the Royal Netherlands Embassy Canberra 2005.

The Mathematics and Statistics in Industry Study Group (MISG) is a forum that unites some of the best maths mind in the world. Whole of Australian industry is given the opportunity to submit projects and problems that will addressed by over 150 mathematical and statistical experts. The goal is to address five or six industry problems over the course of a 3 year period.

I was commissioned to design a logo that would appeal to both education, and the $7000 a question blue chip industry sectors; that would reflecting RMIT's educational edge and flair but stand on it's own independently, reflecting the Group's topical tendencies and scientific and mathematic heratige.

Wood Duck Cellars

Wood Duck Cellars is a small private vineyard and winery located at Bridgewater in the Adelaide Hill, one of the premium cool country wine districts of Australia.

Specially selected strains of Pinot Noire and Chardonnay were planted in 2000 and are managed using organic principles. All grapes are hand picked and basket pressed. The wine is 70% Pinot Noire and 30% Chardonnay and remained on lees for two years.

Like the wine, the vineyard and its makers, the label designs feel handcrafted and are illustrative.

Inspiration: Everyday: normal, masses, ordinary, urban, reality, metropolitan flair: light, creativity, pizzazz, elegance, style. urban: town, built up, building, structure, construction, metropolitan. Design pursuing the everyday life. Photographs in places where seemingly nothing is happening. Where everyday people live their everyday lives, the most banal situations which can also be a moment of insight, captured by an eye in the city.

Influenced and inspired by artists who pursue ordinary moments, who celebrate creating and having a go, seeking to epitomize the urban lifestyle: trendy colours, practical materials. Aim: to examine ways to project ideas consumers, reality, community, objects, that which is rational, practical and functional, favouring the representation of life or objects romanticizing and idealizing them.

IT Evolution is a Canberra based company specialising in information technology, media, communications, and business services.

IT Evolution was looking for an identity which embodied both modernity and change. The design had to be sophisticated, yet reflect the firm's technological base.

The company wanted a logo and business card which would be simple and eloquent but with a dash of daring.The final solution amalgamates both halves of the business name (evolution and information technology) and both aspects of the design requirement: time, the clock and movement embody the evolutionary ideas behind the business while the numbers and digits represent information technology.

Employee Share Ownership DEWR

Employee share ownership (ESO) is a DEWR program which aims to promote working systems that give employees a share in the business they work in so that they benefit financially when the business performs well. ESO is for businesses of all sizes and types.

The bold circular design using metallic inks was designed to be strong but friendly to appeal to both employers and employees. It was easily applied to a wide range of print materials including, postcards, invitations, notepads, posters, and folders.

Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) provides unemployed Indigenous people with activities designed to meet community needs. It aims to develop participant skills and improve their employability in order to assist them to move into employment outside the CDEP. Each year there is an awards ceremony to recognise its participants.

A long landscape format was chosen for the awards booklet to enhance the stuning Australian 'wide open spaces' photography and pick up on the bredth and range of entries and participants.
